Photography West
The Mentor/ Mentee (M & M) Program

The M & M committee is hard at work developing a newer look and design for this popular program.

In an attempt to meet the needs of the Photography West members, there will be two segments of the program.

The Basic (level 1) segment will be designed to help the member learn to use their camera.  Workshops will include topics such as Basic Camera, Basic Digital Camera, Seeing the Light, and Composition. There will also be an opportunity to go on a photo shoot with mentors to practice using their camera.  (One mentor may be assigned to several Mentee students for this photo shoot.  A critique of photos taken during the course will be included.  Mentees will be encouraged to submit mounted photos for the M & M Program Solo Show in April and digital files for the Fall Mentee Friday Program.

The 2nd level (Intermediate) will be designed for those wanting more that just mastering their camera.  Individuals will be paired with Mentors (Advanced and Master Photographers) who will assist them with developing their skills, accompany the Mentee on photo shoots, and introduce them to intermediate to advanced techniques of photo editing. It will include lectures on specific types of photography such as landscapes, candid people, animals, creative, flowers, portraits, night or flash. Becoming more familiar with the photo editing software, Photoshop Elements, will be a portion of this segment. A critique event will be held as well as a Solo Show for the group and a Fall Friday Program will be put together with the Mentee digital photo contributions.

Those members wanting to participate in the Intermediate segment will need to have completed the Basic segment.  Those wishing to complete only the 1st (Basic) segment will be able to enroll in that single segment.

This redesign of the M & M program will provide an opportunity for photographers of all experience levels to follow the path to create improved pictures, learn tips and techniques of the masters, meet and network with fellow Mentees and become more confident in their skills.

Applications for the 2012 program are now available in the Photo Lab or download from this web site.  If you have submitted an application previously – please resubmit a “new, revised” application.
